Miller’s Crossing

Millers CrossingLast night, I finally sat down to watch Miller’s Crossing and it is really worthy of a spot in the top 10 movies ever made. This classic was made by the Coen brothers, who have made movies like The Big Lebowski, Fargo, The Hudsucker Proxy, Raising Arizona and O Brother, Where Art Thou?.

This movie is very stylish and very smart and you will not find one boring moment in this movie. The cast includes Gabriel Byrne, Marcia Gay Harden, John Turturro,Albert Finney and Steve Buscemi. A movie with this kind of star power with the Coen Brothers writing, producing and directing this movie, you can be sure its a fun ride.

Trivia on Miller’s Crossing:

Writers Joel Coen and Ethan Coen suffered writer’s block while writing this film. They took a break and wrote Barton Fink (1991), a film about a writer with writer’s block.

When Tom confronts Verna in the women’s washroom, Albert Finney is in the background dressed in drag as the matron (wearing a black dress).

John Turturro based his performance on the film’s cinematographer Barry Sonnenfeld.

Sam Raimi and Frances McDormand make cameo appreances in the movie.

The Miller of the title comes from the Coen Brothers’ frequent film editor, Michael R. Miller.
